Virginia is known as the “Mother of Presidents” due to the fact that more U.S. presidents have been born there than in any other state. The weather conditions and landscape are formed by both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. The original main economic income in Virginia was agriculture, but during the 1960s and 1970s it began to shift towards an industrial economy. As of 2002, the main export in Virginia is computer chips. The state is also home to the headquarters of the Department of Defense and the CIA, which are located in the northern region of the state. One very important structure credited for benefiting Virginia’s economy is the CSX A-Line Bridge, also known as the James River Bridge. This double-track concrete bridge was built in 1919 by both the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and the Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad. Constructed to make a quicker direct route around Richmond, this bridge’s added efficiency to through traffic allowed for quicker transportation of people and products through the entire state.
