The southern region of the Sunshine State is best recognized for cultural diversity with its roots in Latin culture, primarily due to its proximity to Cuba, which is prevalent in food, language, dance, and art throughout the area. One of the main landmarks in the south Florida area is the Freedom Tower. This building was originally built as the headquarters for the newspaper, The Miami News, and was completed in 1925. After the newspaper left, the building become the place of safety for Cuban refugees until it became a registered as a historic landmark in 2008. Originally designed by the New York City based architecture firm, Schultze and Weaver, this beautiful building reflects the Mediterranean Revival styled structure with elements taken from the design of the Giralda in Seville, Spain.
