Mississippi, which is also known as the Hospitality State in southern region of the United States, has a population of around 3 million people. The state is heavily forested, and well known for its agricultural production. Today, it is the home of the largest catfish aquaculture, raising the majority of consumed catfish in the U.S. The state’s previous capitol building, also known as Old Mississippi State Capitol, served as the statehouse from 1839 to 1903 when the new capitol building was completed and the old building was abandoned until 1916 when it was turned into offices. This building was originally designed by architect John Lawrence, who was later replaced by William Nichols who completed the 3-story structure in 1840. The building is made of brick, limestone, flagstone, and stucco and adorned with a copper dome that rises 94 feet above the first floor.
