Derrek began his engineering career in 2012 at T.Y. Lin International, focusing primarily on heavy highway and infrastructure design. His experience includes design of highway/pedestrian bridges, temporary/permanent retaining wall design, rehabilitation of canal structures, and parking garage engineering. He performed work for several large clients including NYSDOT, IDOT, Niagara Falls State Park, NYS Thruway Authority, Canal Corporation, and the city of Buffalo.
Derrek continued his career in bridges and moved specifically into the railroad industry in 2016. As a project engineer and lead bridge inspector, he provided bridge inspection reports, repair recommendations and load ratings following AREMA standards. His clients included Watco Companies LLC, Lake State Railway, and Niles Canyon Railway.
Derrek graduated summa cum laude from the University at Buffalo in 2012 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He is scheduled to receive a Master’s with a focus in bridge engineering from the University at Buffalo in late 2017. During his time at UB, Derrek participated as a research assistant for studies into structural health monitoring systems and served as a teaching assistant in graduate school. When not at work, Derrek enjoys camping at national parks and spending time with his dog, Cole.
